Bronouncement: Hey, Tumblrs (and other bloggers)...

Stop lifting my posts!

I appreciate that you want to share my writing. Why wouldn't you? It's hilarious. So please, link to me early and often. But I'd appreciate it if you excepted a paragraph or two and linked to the rest. Traffic matters.

  1. There a few tricks to help avert these practices.

Absolute links back to your own previous articles, sometimes scrapers don't change them. Images hosted on your server can easily be changed ("HEY EVERYBODY, THIS IS STOLEN CONTENT"). Make numerous references to your own blog content to make it clear this is THE Philosophy Bro's blog.

  2. Terrible advice. Never compromise content for search optimization or pure traffic generation. Focus on producing awesome content (as you already do), and strong user base will follow. World don't need another Lifehacker.

  3. I'm not sure how he would be compromising content?

  4. I wouldn't worry too much about other sites copying your stuff. Ultimately, they're more beneficial than they are harmful.
